The British Actors
July 27, 2011
Here is a short piece from The New York Times, on a segment that they did on the young British Heartthrobs in showbiz. It fantastic. It gives some insight into what got them into film and why they are so passionate about it. Some started real young and some didn’t get into acting until after drama school. My favorite actor out of this group and actually, greatest actor ever , for me, is Ben Whishaw. He is just a genius on camera. He is elegant and smart, witty and beautiful. He just has a grace about him on camera and the lines he delivers are just perfect.
Some of his best film roles are
Perfume: The Story of a Murder
I’m Not There
Bright Star
Layer Cake
Brideshead Revisited
Enduring Love
Criminal Justice (TV)
I have always had the greatest respect for British actors. I find their style and delivery some of the best in the business. The quality that comes out Great Britain seems more sophisticated and elegant. They seem to have more of an appreciation for what they do and for the people that went before them. As Eddie Redmayne said in the first interview, he almost wanted to quit acting all together after he saw Glen Gary, Glen Ross, because he thought he could never be that great of an actor. It’s nice to see people, especially other actors, really have an appreciation for the art of film.
I have the hugest love for it and I cannot get enough. I look forward to new films all the time and the trailers just hold me over until they come out. I am so looking forward to David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and that doesn’t come out until Christmas of 2011. There is a new Dark Knight film as well as the new Spider-Man and a new Superman. I just cannot wait. Films are continually getting better and there are always new actors/actresses emerging. It is nice to see they really appreciate all the work too.
Insight
July 22, 2011
Sticking to personal issues, I figured I would dig down deep and really give you some insight into me. I really have been through a lot the beginning of this year, but I have also learned oh so much about myself and just life in general. “I may hate somethings about myself, but I don’t regret a thing.” One of the first things I blogged about myself on LadiesLoop was that I went through a really bad relationship about three or four months ago and it took a lot out of me. I got hurt in so many ways and it is still a struggle even now to get past all that happened.
One thing I keep thinking about and that will always be on my mind, is that I never want to get hurt again. The way I got hurt by my ex cannot compare to anything I have ever gone through in life. It was emotionally and physically draining and it took a long time to really feel like myself again. The reason I am talking about this is because there is a point to all this. While I was dating this guy, he mentioned how bad he had been hurt in the past, by past girlfriends, friends, and even his own family – how people always left him in the end. Because of all of that he never trusted me, he was always afraid of getting hurt, he critized every little thing I did, and most of all he thought I was like every other person out there who had hurt him.
The reason I am telling you all this is because although he hurt me so bad, I am not going to become like him. I am not going to sleepwalk through life and be afraid to take another leap and fall for someone else. Yes, I am going to take more time to take it slow and really get to know them before I let myself fall in love again, but I am and will always continue to be a trusting person. I trust people until they give me a reason not too. I want to believe everyone is good and has some good in them. Maybe it will get me in trouble and I may get hurt again, but you can’t be scared to find the person that you are meant to fall in love with, and you surely can’t do that by not trusting them. Love is all about trust. You cannot have one without the other.
The moral of my story is that as much as I was hurt, my heart broken into a million little pieces, I don’t regret any of it one bit. I wouldn’t have learned about love, heartbreak, trust, and how to grow from each and every thing that has happened in my life. I wouldn’t have learned that it is possible to be a better person after being so broken down and vulnerable. Most importantly I would not have learned that it’s okay to fall in love. You cannot be afraid to fall in love in life and get your heartbroken sometimes. Yes, you cannot be naive and stupid in trusting someone, but if you truly take the time to take it slow to get to know that person and really let you friendship grow into an everlasting love, then I think you will realize that you have found that right person.
Meet > Friends > Date > Fall in Love
It may seem old fashioned and traditional, but why rush something that is supposed to last for the rest of your life?
My Life Goals
July 22, 2011
While I am still reflecting on my life and some personal things of mine, I figured I would talk about my life goals.
a goal: the end toward which effort is directed. synonyms: aim, ambition, aspiration.
I think it is important to have goals in life. Whether they are easy, difficult, or set too high, it is important to have them. Many people struggle to find their place or their purpose and life. They feel as though they work very hard, yet in the end they go nowhere. Setting life goals for oneself is an easy way to feel as though you are doing something special and it gives every day meaning. For me, setting goals is a way for me to feel as though I a contributing something and doing something with my life, and when I attain each and every goal I feel like I have accomplished something and I can do almost anything.
1. One of my life goals was to go to College/University, graduate with Honors, while playing soccer, hopefully with a scholarship. So far I have done just that. I will be heading into my senior year and as of right now, I am on track to graduate with honors and I have completed all the rest. None of it has been easy though. I worked super hard in High School to be the best, and sometimes a little too hard. I barely had a life. But now that I am in college, practically everything paid for, I feel as though it wasn’t for nothing. Now I get to enjoy my college life, as I should, have a little fun, all while getting my degree and reaching one of my life goals. It’s good to start early.
2. Dream big, and go after what I am passionate about. Don’t let anyone tell me I am not good enough and to prove them wrong. I feel as though I am almost at this point in my life as well. After all of the drama I have been through the first part of this year, coming back home this summer has been the best thing for me. I have finally found what I want to do with the rest of my life and who I want to be. I am more determined than ever. My ultimate life goal has always been to play professional/semi-professional soccer, but I know that for women it is very hard to make that a full time job. So this summer I really did some soul searching and realized how much I really loved writing, photography and blogging. I am currently about to get my Bachelor’s Degree in History and English and once I do, I feel I will be ready to begin writing professionally or as a full time job. I may even continue and get my Master’s. It has definitely been a struggle and I am not quite sure what I will do with my degree once I am done with school, but now I finally know what I want to aspire to be and I’m not going to let anything stop me.
3. Lastly, something I have always dreamed about and ultimately wanted for myself is to live in London, England, for the rest of my life. I love Europe (been there once), love the rain, and I love English football (soccer) with a passion. I haven’t quite figured out how I am going to live there yet or make my living there, but my brother and I have already made plans to visit there once I graduate and my best friend has already told me that he is moving there next summer and I am more than welcome to stay with him (or vacation there for a little while). At least then, I guess, I can test it out and make sure it is what I really want. I’m pretty sure that my mind is already made up, though, and I will be living there hopefully within the next five years of my life.
Well, that’s all I have for today. I hope my life goals can inspire you to make some of your own, and not be afraid to do what you really want to do with your life.
Before I Go
July 20, 2011
Considering this may be the last week or two that I blog, as I will be heading back to Texas soon and I’m getting back into the swing of things, I wanted to write something a little more personal. In about 20 days I head back to Texas and in preparation for that I have been working out and training everyday and trying to finalize everything. I’ve noticed that other bloggers like to write about themselves and the readers enjoy that; I know I do, so I figured I would do the same this week – write about my life experiences, things I have learned from, grown from, thing that have made me better, and that I will never forget.
Today, I have written 15 things you might not know about me.
1. I used to be a roller figure skater (when I was younger).
2. I was born in Phoenix, Arizona, lived here my whole life except for college (Tucson then Texas).
3. I have a personal blog and film/tv blog on Tumblr.
4. My favorite candy/chocolate is Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
5. I have been playing soccer since I was eight years old.
6. I took a trip to the Netherlands in 2002 for two weeks, and it is something I will never forget.
7. I love writing and reading poetry. It is inspirational and I have learned so much from it reading it and short stories than anything else. My favorite poet is, by far, John Keats.
8. My favorite type of food is probably American as I love steak and potatoes, but I also love Italian food.
9. My goal is to graduate and get a job in London or somewhere in Europe. It is my dream and life goal to live there.
10. I hate flying and planes. It is my biggest fear, but I love traveling.
11. I have a huge love for vintage style clothing and accessories (it is what my personal blog on tumblr is dedicated to).
12. I have been currently working on a writing piece since the beginning of the summer. It is currently about 25-30 pages in length. Truth is, I don’t know if I will ever finish it.
13. I am a huge film buff. My friends hate playing Scene It? with me, because I win every time. Also, my other tumblr is completely dedicated to everything film and television related. I probably spend more of my time on there or watching movies than anything else.
14. I love using Saturdays (the weekends) to just relax and going to thrift stores or secondhand stores and finding my vintage accessories or even clothing sometimes. I love being able to find unique things that people think aren’t beautiful or worth anything and buying them. For one, I get a great deal on them, and two, I have found some great things that I would have normally paid a fortune for.
15. I hate getting up early as I am no morning person at all, but if it means spending time with friends or family I will do it in a heart beat. Last Saturday I woke up at 6:00am to go have breakfast with my mom and grandparents at 7:00am. It turned out to be a wonderful time and it was a wonderful day. We went to this little diner downtown and it really felt special.
Well, that’s all for today! I will be back tomorrow with a story and something else about me.
All I Have to Say Is…
July 19, 2011
So I was really hoping to be writing about the US Women’s National Team winning the FIFA Women’s World Cup, but all I have to say is
Well, I think a picture, in this case, says a thousand words.
It was definitely a depressing and heartbreaking game, over and over and over again. I felt the worst for my mom. She was watching the game and it was 2-1 to the USA in the first half of extra time and she fell asleep. She woke up and saw Japan celebrating, lifting the trophy, confetti everywhere. She thought for a minute and realized that the USA wasn’t wearing all blue and they definitely weren’t Japanese. She asked WHAT HAPPENED? Yeah, that was my reaction too, Mom. I just couldn’t believe we let two leads slip and then couldn’t put away the penalties. I get having one saved and maybe two, but we missed three, and one we actually missed, as in totally missed the entire goal.
If anyone deserved to beat the USA and win the trophy it would have to be Japan, hands down. After everything their country has been through, and being real underdogs in the tournament, I definitely tip my hat to them. They played a great game and obviously had more fight than the USA did. They came back every time and defied all odds. They had to beat hard teams to make it to the Final, just like the USA. They knocked out Sweden and Germany, whereas the USA knocked out Brazil and France. It was no easy road for either team, but I would have to say that the USA couldn’t close out the match. I honestly don’t know what happened. It was a sad sad day, but the only thing that brightened it was knowing that a small island country like Japan who had just experienced one of the most tragic things their country has ever seen, just won their first Women’s World Cup. It was almost surreal.
A Day to Remember | The US Women’s National Team
July 15, 2011
I figured after all of the sports drama this week, MLB all-star game, the British Open, and the FIFA Women’s World Cup, I had to talk about the US Women’s National Team and how much heart and soul and determination they had to persevere through a touch group, and two really touch battles to make it to the World Cup Finals, which airs Sunday on ESPN at 6:30 am. As a woman, sports fan, and soccer player, I am proud to support the US Women as they plan to take on Japan on Sunday.
Watching them battle through out the tournament and have to prove themselves, after last years upsetting defeat to Brazil, has been something special. Even though they lost to Sweden in the final group game they still knew that making it to the final meant defeating every team that stood in their way, no matter how difficult or a struggle it was going to be. Because of that loss to Sweden it meant they faced Brazil in the quarterfinals.
They came out on top in the first two minutes after an own goal, but Brazil still looked the better team. Going into the second half Brazil kept pressing. Then after a ridiculous call by the referee Rachel Bhueler was shown a red card and Marta stepped up to take the penalty for Brazil. American goalkeeper (and best in the world), Hope Solo, managed to save the shot from Marta, only shocked to hear the referee blow her whistle for “encroachment” and called for Marta to take it again. She wouldn’t miss the second time around.
Now they were really up against it. The game went in to extra time and right away Brazil scored. The USA had nearly 25 minutes to try to find and equalizer and with one less player on the field than Brazil. It seemed like the most difficult uphill battle ever, but the women were ready this time. They weren’t going to let Brazil, who got two lucky goals, take them out like this. And nearly seconds before half time, Megan Rapinoe made a run down the left side and crossed a hopeful ball into the Brazil goal area. The Brazilian keeper came for it and missed, and who else but Abby Wambach was there to head it into the back of the net. On penalty kicks the USA prevailed 5-3 with a save from Hope Solo again.
The next game was against France in the semi final, a team looking to prove themselves on the big stage. They came out fighting, but the US jumped ahead first again, but France nicked one right back. But in the second half, a midst more shots from France, the US got two more goals and sealed the victory for the team and a place in the Finals against Japan who knocked out World Cup holders Germany before they faced Sweden in the semi finals.
It really has been a tournament full of heart and will to win. The US has finally proven they are worth their number one world ranking and Japan has proven that even amongst all the tragedy that has plagued their county they have come to Germany to win the World Cup. The game on Saturday should be and eventful one, but not one lacking any heart from either side. My money is on the USA, but don’t count out a team like Japan with nothing to lose.
Guilty Pleasures
July 13, 2011
Our world is always evolving and people are always changing.
So i decided to take a stab at the popular guilty pleasures of our day.
It can be anything from what we wear to what we do to what we see, stuff that entertains us or that we take for granted.
Webster’s Dictionary defines “guilty pleasure” as, something pleasurable that induces a usually minor feeling of guilt. That is very true, but guilty pleasures is a phrase we toss around these days referring to almost anything.
My definition of “guilty pleasure” is, something that brings you happiness more than any normal everyday thing.
1. Justin Beiber
2. Starbucks
3. iTunes
4. Credit cards
5. Gay rights
6. Harry Potter
7. Facebook
8. iPad
9. Lady Gaga
10. Twilight
I used a lot of different resources to make my top 10 list: google trends, zeitgeist, imdb, twitter, facebooks, and my own opinion. Some of these things just shock me, but I see and hear it everywhere. Like Twilight and Justin Beiber. They are young and annoying and and Twilight just lacks quality acting. Justin Bieber is talented, but he is a sixteen year old kid, and he’s taking summer getaways with his seventeen year old girlfriend. I know my parents would never let me do that when I was sixteen. Now I can agree with Starbucks and the iPad. They just keep getting more and more popular. Who doesn’t love a great cup of coffee? They can charge me whatever and I will still buy their drinks; and look at all the apple products. All everyone is trying to do is copy them. The other ones are quite obvious, Lady Gaga has talent, weird most of the time, but talented. Credit cards are always going to be popular, especially in our economic crisis. Facebook, it’s like everyone has one now. And gay rights, it just continues to be the top political issue amongst political parties everywhere.
Well this is just my opinion and and ideas but feel free to speak your mind. I’m all ears on this stuff. But truth is the world like hearing and talking about these things. It’s what keeps the world spinning round. #truth
Summer Spotlight: 10 sites I like and Why
July 9, 2011
1. tumblr
Tumblr had become my new favorite website, and yes it is spelled t-u-m-b-l-r. It is a blog site, but unlike any other. It give you the opportunity to interact with other bloggers as you leave short quotes, photographs, and insight. It is probably one of the most clever things I have come across this summer and I am addicted. I cannot stop going on it. My brother is almost annoyed at me for how much time I spend on there. On tumblr, you can follow other people as others follow you and you can see what amazing photos people post, their thoughts, quotes, and you can even search certain tags for any type of media you are looking for. It is fun, refreshing, and super addictive, so be careful.
2. twitter
I wrote a blog about twitter awhile back and second to tumblr, twitter comes in a close second with facebook right behind as the site I use more than almost any other. I follow my favorite celebrities, athletes, artists and actors, and I’ve found so many clever quotes, interesting thoughts and even some harsh feedback from followers. It is a great way to stay up on entertainment and know whats going on with your favorite celebs. What’s great about twitter is it only allows you to post up to 190 characters so all the post are short and sweet, and its perfect fro a quick scroll through to see what’s going on any given day.
3. facebook
I guess enough cannot be said about facebook. I mean, who doesn’t have a facebook anymore? Facebook is nice for staying connected with family, friends, and people you just meet. While twitter is more anonymous and doesn’t give out any personal information, facebook is a great way to post personal feelings, what your doing throughout the day, and even check in where ever you go so friends and family can keep up with your goings on. Once I thought about shutting down my facebook and my mom got a little angry with me. She said it was the only way for family and friends back home to stay connected with me while I was away. It’s more personal than say a twitter or a tumblr.
4. flickr
Flickr is a photo sharing website, similar to PhotoBucket. Flickr let’s anyone upload and share photos for free. It allows photographers, artists, painters, etc, share their work with the entire world. It also gives one the option to share their photos on other websites like, facebook, tumblr, twitter, or even myspace. It’s a nice way to keep your favorite photos all in one place and be able to share them with your friends or anyone who wants to see your work.
5. imdb
Imdb, is the number one website on information relating to film, television, and actors in entertainment. It is my one-stop-shop for anything relating to acting. If I want to find out something about a movie I go to imdb. If I don’t know who a certain actor is in my favorite show, I go to imdb. Almost everyday I check imdb to see what new films they are promoting and if there are any new trailors to watch. It keeps me updated on everything film. It posts ratings, box office results, up-coming releases, and news on celebrities. It has EVERYTHING you could possibly need to know about films and the actors and actresses in them.
6. netflix
Where would I be without my trusty Netflix? Netflix has come in so handy this summer when I have been stranded alone at my house with nothing to do. If I don’t have the TV on while I am on the internet and/or there is just nothing good worth watching I pull up Netflix and browse around until I find something good. Lately I have been catching up on Battlestar Gallactica. Netflix is full of old and new movies as well as great television shows and series. It is so perfect because if you want you can watch live streaming movies and shows right on your computer or have them delivered or sent straight to your queue to be watched on your TV. It is honestly one of the best inventions ever.
7. pandora
The perfect place for all things music. Pandora gives you 40 hours a month, free, of continuous music from whatever you like. Just sign up and pick your favorite artist, genre, or song title and Pandora literally reads your mind – at least it does for me. Whatever mood I am in that day I just type in that artist or song title and it streams the music right through my computer, iPod, iPhone, whatever you have. If you don’t feel like listening to your music today or you are at work and only have your computer, then pull up Pandora and start playing some music. Music is the best way to calm the soul and enjoy a beautiful day. It is my best friend.
8. youtube
Now where would this world be without YouTube? A place for people of any age to go and watch music videos, movie trailors, comedians, funny videos, listen to music, whatever video could possibly be online, is most likely on youtube. One can upload their own videos to share with family and friends as well. It is a good way to share songs via social networking. I do it all the time. I want my friends to hear my favorite song and I simply send them a link to youtube where they can listen to the song, or better yet watch the music video. It is so clever and simple.
9. wikipedia
I love wikipedia. Now I have been told in high school and especially college how much I am not to use or quote wikipedia at all in any of my work and papers I use in my classes. But there are so many better uses for wikipedia than for school related activities. Mostly I use wikipedia to quickly look up things I don’t know about, or people I have never heard of. I’ll look up an athlete or an actor or actress or maybe even what “patois” means. Wikipedia has so many different uses. A lot of times I have used to brush up on facts before a history test or used it to look up my favorite musical artist. It’s an easy way to find out little facts about the things you want to know the most about, instead of spending so much more time surfing the internet.
10. wordpress
Lastly, is wordpress. A more normal blog site, where I write a more in depth and descriptive blog. WordPress is what you would expect to see if you wanted to find a good blog site. I have used wordpress for school and for my own personal blog. It is what I use right now to write this blog. You can give it any look and feel you want, and even create your own blog site with your own personal url link. WordPress also give you the option of adding different widget so people can follow you on facebook, twitter, and any other social media site you may have. WordPress is simple and classy and that’s why I like it.
Summer Spotlight: Casey Anthony Trial
July 7, 2011
My spotlight is on the Casey Anthony trial. It seems to be a big hit this summer and a big focal point for every news station out there. Everyone on the internet, blog sites, and Facebook and twitter cannot seem to leave the issue alone. Is she innocent or is she guilty? What for, lying, partying, obstruction, murder? You tell me. But it also begs the question, is the media only showing us, the public, what they want us to see – like all of the negative sides of Casey Anthony.
The gist of the story is that the mother of little Caylee Anthony, Ms. Casey Anthony, was taken to court by the state of Florida for criminal charges of murder, aggravated manslaughter, aggravated child abuse, and providing false information back in 2008 after her daughter disappeared and was then found dead on December of that year. The child was reported missing by the child’s grandmother and not by her mother. Did she not know her three year old daughter was missing? What was she doing?
During the news coverage and disappearance of Caylee, Casey Anthony was seen about partying and having fun with friends at clubs and parties. Her behavior was seen as very suspicious and neglectful. What mother would be out like that while their three year old child was missing? Casey Anthony seemed to have no care for her daughter. Once the body of Caylee was found, a criminal trial was soon pursued by the state of Florida against Casey Anthony.
The trial came to a close on July 5, 2011 with a surprising verdict, not guilty on all counts, except for providing false information to the police. Many have compared the Casey Anthony trial to that of the O.J. Simpson murder trial and its ‘not guilty’ verdict. Casey Anthony was sentenced to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine for each count, but will be released for time served and good behavior on July 15, 2011.
So what is your opinion on the trial?
What would you have done if you were a juror in this case?
Joe’s Diner (Phoenix, AZ)
July 2, 2011
If you haven’t been downtown to Joe’s Diner I suggest you make some time to get down there this summer. Serving breakfast and lunch in their old fashioned style diner, open from 7am – 3pm everyday, Joe’s diner is the classic food with friendly service.
The diner is located on 16th st. and Camelback ave. in a little white building with a red roof. The inside of the diner is my favorite part. Yes the food is delicious and at a great price, but the interior is fool of old movie photos and actors and actresses. The floor is a black and white checkerboard and the booths are fire engine red. It makes me wish I lived back in the 50′s.
The people are super friendly and the food is simple and fresh. They serve breakfast and lunch all day, my favorite being the Italian Sub, served with french fries and a pickle. It was delicious. Their service is quick and I just love the atmosphere at Joe’s Diner.
I never even knew about this hole in the wall until today, but I think I have found a new lunch spot. It’s trendy, cute, and old fashioned, but it’s unique, and of course the food is wonderful.
