Beautiful Summer
June 4, 2011
Do you ever find yourself just sitting on the couch watching TV wondering what can I do now that it’s summer? It’s okay because it happens to me too. One thing that surprises a lot of people is that for living in a desert there are so many ways to stay cool around here. Sometimes the temperature can get above 110 degrees, sometimes even 120. It’s absolutely ridiculous, but for friends and family alike there are so many ways to avoid this dreadful heat, or at least stay a little bit cool. There are 5 lakes near Phoenix, 4 water parks, and many theme parks and pools to help keep one cool this summer. I’m going to give you a little information about my favorite places to go, and then you can decide for yourself!
Lake Pleasant
Lake Pleasant is one of Arizona’s most beautiful lakes and is located about 30 miles north of Phoenix. One of the many man-made lakes in Arizona, Lake Pleasant is one of the biggest recreation cites for people living in Arizona. It’s great to just grab a boat, a couple of friends, and take a trip down to the lake for the weekend. One of my favorite memories as a kid was going water skiing with my friends down on the lake. We would spend the whole day out there. It’s always a little cooler down by the water.
Wet ‘n’ Wild
One of my favorite places to go as a kid and secretly, still is. It’s located just off the I-17 and Pinnacle Peak Road. It has recently been updated and come under new management and is quite the place for children and family to spend the summer. With an array of exciting rides and attractions, there is so much fun to be had at Wet ‘n’ Wild. They frequently offer discounts and coupons for families and groups, so anyone can have fun in the water.
Kiwanis Wave Pool
If you’re tired of being outdoors Kiwanis Wave Pool is the place for you. Located in Tempe, Kiwanis offers fun in the water indoors. It has two water slides, a wave pool, a heated pool, and raft and tube rentals. Also aside from the pool, the Kiwanis Parks and Rec has a batting cage and workout center located nearby.
Salt River Tubing
Now if you’re older and tired of being around a lot of children and just need sometime to yourself with a couple of friends, head down to the Salt River for some tubing. An all day event where a few friends can come together, bring an ice chest with some snacks and some drinks and just hit the river. It makes for a relaxing afternoon and a great time spent with friends. Just remember to bring a lot of sunscreen and if you drink, just be smart.
